The Presentation

The plot is based around 5 main characters, each living in a typical everyday lifestyle of contempary Britain. Each character has a different ethnicity and is treated differently.
It will revolve around celebrating multiculturalism rather than just reincorporating the same stereotypes.
The key two characters are Alex and his younger brother, as it is Alex who tries helping his brother and ends up a lot worse. His brother is involved in a black street gang, representing his area where they live. He has a rival, who is Tom, in another opposing gang.
The production is just a film opening, and the first scene is of one of the main characters being shot dead, and the rest of the film is the build up to that point. We hope this will grip the audience as it creates many enigma codes, which through out research we have found a common trait of film openings.

-Michael the main character. He is black and lives in a council estate with his mother and younger brother. Him and his brother are a binary opposition, with the the younger brother being involved in crime and gangs, where as he is in college.
Bradley- The younger brother of Alex
Chris- A white character with a more upper class upbringing. Regularly gets bullied at school and has no intention of telling his parents.
Tom- A racist character who is constantly in mischief.
Aakash- A British Asian boy who lives in west London. Always going against his parents wishes and is trying to revolve around a “badboy” image. However tries to go against this.

One of the main issues and debates the film will show is gun and knife crime, which is increasing over certain parts of London, where the film is mainly going to be set.
Another topic is multiculturalism and how it is handled by different people.
We want to represent these issue as very sensitive topics, and to show the negative impact they have on society. For example it can lead to morale panics and the judging of others in the same race.

The locations will mainly revolve around the school where some characters go, as there is a division in ethnicities at the school itself.
Another location will be a council flat as it is where one of the main characters lives.
Tubes and busses will also try and be used to emphasise the British life. Public transport plays a key role in this.

We will want to produce a low budget film, but with a high production value. For this reason we have decided to use The Nation Lottery to fund the production.
This way we can reach out to a wider audience, and not just to a d\e audience

The representations of locations is very important. The council estate is going to be shown almost like a battleground, to emphasise the differences between the characters.
Representations of characters will vary due to the connotations and stereotypes we try and create. For example one of the white characters will be the complete opposite to another.
